How to use DeWalt Mobile Lock to protect your materials, tools, and equipment from thieves on your construction project.

I would bet my bottom dollar that if you have been in the construction industry for more than a year – you have been ripped off. Many times we are not even aware of the theft for several days! Thieves know that construction sites are ripe for the picking. They are often construction workers themselves and know when a site is vulnerable, just exactly where to find valuable items, and what kinds of items are available with little or no protection. Some people work construction by day and rip off their own employers at night.

So how do we protect ourselves from such savvy thieves?

DeWalt Mobile Lock was invented by Red Wolf with just these problems in mind and has proven itself as a very effective theft prevention device, but to be most effective you need to know the best ways to use it.

First of all I recommend that all contractors always keep existing security systems, locks, fences, lights, etcetera in place. When you add another layer of security you don’t want to relax on anything you have been using. Nothing should look or feel different. Second – install one or more DeWalt MobileLock Anti Theft Devices. There are a number of ways to use them (as door opening alerts, as area disturbance alerts, etc.) but I recommend that you attach them in a covert way to something portable and valuable that you can leave as a plant in a place that thieves will look for sure (In a tool trailer, job box, or some what hidden as if you were hiding it, but were just too busy to really lock it up. The most effective things our customers have used in the past were small portable generators, multi power tool kits, attached to a kitchen appliance, or contained in a bundle of copper tubing. Use your imagination. It can be a lot of fun and rewarding to nail a thief.

Thieves look for the easy hit. They will always grab items that are good for quick cash at the pawnshop. Set the MobileLock unit to call you during hours that there will be no authorized person on site. It’s easy to set up all the different parameters you want from the DeWalt MobileLock web site. Once it is set – stop worrying. When thieves come calling – they won’t even know when they trip the alarm so they will probably not hurry to leave before you have the police show up.

We highly recommend you call the police if the likelihood is high that a thief tripped the alarm. Don’t hurry to the site until you have called the police and they have a chance to get there first. You DO NOT WANT TO CONFRONT A PACK OF THIEVES OR EVEN ONE THIEF ALONE. They may be very dangerous and if you take the law in your own hands you may be in more trouble than the thieves. LET THE POLICE HANDLE IT!!!!

Another important thing to do: Get the news media involved.
